How do I apply to study in Singapore ?
Application procedures are dependent on the type of institutions the students are
applying to. In general, you need to check the application procedures with the educational
institution of your choice.
General criteria for applying to courses in Singapore ?
Copy of Passport, Copy of Birth Certificate, Copies of Highest Educational Certificates
and Transcripts, Employment history (If any), recent passport-size photographs,
Passes in English. Offer letter will be send by the school after review.
What are the documents required ?
For all education courses, basic documents are the copy of passport, registration
form, highest standard education level and English Proficiency. After this submission,
the student is required to wait for an OFFER LETTER from the school.
When Should I Apply for a Visa ?
All applicants are STRONGLY encouraged to apply at least 60 days ahead of the anticipate
travel date.
What Are The Requirements For Getting A Student Visa ?
All student visa applicants must demonstrate that they : are entering the
United States for a temporary stay only for the purpose of pursuing a full course
of study at a recognized institution of learning; have a residence outside the United
States to which they intend to return following their studies; have sufficient resources
available to provide for the total cost of their education; and have sufficient
command of the English language or will enroll in intensive English language courses
in the United States. In addition, the school must report to the State Department
that you have been accepted to study there by entering your data into the Student
and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). See below for more about SEVIS.
How often can I visit my home country while holding the scholarship
?
As often as you like at your own cost during the school vacations, if you do not
have any school activities. During the school term, you will need the prior approval
of the principal of the secondary school/junior college that you are in before returning
to your home country.
Singapore Student Visa Information ?
Visa Fees: For Student Visa, you have to pay $US13.
The Following Documents are Required:
• Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond date of departure required by all.
• Valid travel documents including an onward or return ticket.
• Sufficient funds/Complete Bank Statement.
• Two passport-size photos.
• Form or letter from college/university in Singapore.
• Three completed application forms.
• Yellow fever vaccination certificate if passing through or coming from an endemic
zone within 6 days of arriving in Singapore.
• Local sponsor?s ID card, with photocopy, except for those in Institutes of Higher
Learning.
• Birth certificate.
• All educational certificates and results .
Work & Study programme ?
Helmsdale has an exciting Work & Study programmer but it is limited to experienced
Cooks & Chefs in India. To qualify, there is great demand for employment in Singapore.
Helmsdale can assist in securing jobs - a minimum salary of SGD$1,800 and above
for experienced cooks and chefs from India with proper qualification, And without
the need for face-to-face interviews! The cook/chef must have a certificate qualification
from an established cooking school at India and must also have a good testimonial
from their previous work place. While working in Singapore, the person can enroll
in a part-time course to upgrade his/her skill.
Work & Study programme
We promote the standard courses that relates to Hospitality such as F & Bs, Food
Preparation and others. The courses usually take 6 months of theory classes and
6 On-Job-Training, where the student will be paid.
What is the medium of instructions in Singapore schools ?
All subjects (except Mother Tongue eg. Chinese, Malay and Tamil) are taught in English.
Is financial assistance available ?
Singapore invests generously in education as it firmly believes in nurturing talents
and developing the leaders of tomorrow. To this end, a large assortment of financial
assistance schemes are available to help international students fund their education.
Tuition Fee Grant
For studies at a local university or polytechnic, the Tuition Fee Grant administered
by the Ministry of Education (MOE) subsidizes up to 80% of tuition fees and is available
to all students. As an international student, you are eligible for the same grant
subject to the signing of a deed with the Singapore government undertaking to work
in a Singapore-registered company for three years, upon completion of your programme.
Bursaries
International students may apply for bursaries to pay for their tuition fees and
other expenses. Bursaries are grants awarded purely on the basis of financial need
and usually do not exceed S$1,500 per academic year.
Study Loans
Alternatively, students may opt to apply for a study loan, usually payable upon
graduation or completion of the programme, at favourable interest rates. Some educational
institutions offer additional loans for miscellaneous expenses, such as computer
loans.
Scholarships
A number of scholarships are also open for application. Selection is usually based
on academic excellence and leadership, or co-curricular track records.
